Definitions: Total refers to the total number of complaints received by the Civilian Complaint Review Board by precinct where the incident occurred. A complaint is defined as any incident within the Agency’s jurisdiction that falls into one or more of the following categories of misconduct specified by the New York City Charter: Force, Abuse of Authority, Discourtesy, and Offensive Language, collectively known as “FADO”. Complaints may contain more than one allegation.
Notes: Rates refer to the rate per 10,000 residents. Precinct-level population rate data should be interpretedwith caution, as rates for all years are calculated using the 2010 Decennial Census - the most recent data year for which detailed block-level population data are available. As such, these population totals do not reflect changes over time. CCC calculates the borough and citywide rates using annual Total Population data from the American Community Survey.
